NewSpring Premarital Class

Are you getting married? My wife, Suzanne, and I are teaching a 5 week class for engaged couples or couples close to getting engaged, to help them be better prepared for marriage.

We are getting ready to begin this 5 week class again, starting on Tuesday, September 2nd. If you or anyone you know is getting married, we would love for you/them to join us.

During the sessions we will discuss many subjects, including God’s plan and purposes for marriage, marital roles and responsibilities, communication skills and conflict resolution. We will also be discussing many expectations people have for marriage including…how to fight fair, how to meet each others needs, dealing with in-laws, daily life (yes ladies, we will tell him he has to help you around the house), children, how to grow spiritually together, work expectations, how to deal with money,and wedding and honeymoon expectations

Date: Begins Tuesday, September 2nd (continues every Tuesday night in Sept.)

Place: Anderson Campus

Time: 6:30 – 8:00 pm

God’s Purposes for Marriage – Part 3

4) Glorify God

Genesis 1:28 – God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

I love that God tells us to subdue the earth. More than anything, I believe that in using that phrase, God is telling this 1st married couple that they are not there to just sit and take up space. They were not just there to consume. God wanted them to make an impact.

God’s Purposes for Marriage – Part 2

3) Companionship

Genesis 2:18 – The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.

This is the first place in scripture where God said something was not good. It is important to understand that God did not make a mistake here. Adam was created with an unmet need. In other words God chose to build a unique need into Adam that was not met by God’s presence alone. In other words, God had a gift He wanted to give Adam, but withheld it until the perfect time.
