Baylor University Survey on Church

I just read this article about a national survey that Baylor University did on religion in America. They had some interesting findings on what really goes on in megachurches. This really flies in the face of the false perceptions and attacks that many people try to use against larger churches. Here is what the article said specifically about megachurches…

Megachurches are more than a mile wide and an inch deep.

“None of the things we all believe about the megachurch is true,” said Dr. Rodney Stark, Distinguished Professor of the Social Sciences at Baylor and co-director of the ISR.

Moved by the Spirit

My friend Clayton King had a great blog post about what it means to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading and not our own selfish desires. You should read it.

NewSpring Baptism Videos

We had a great day at NewSpring yesterday talking about baptism. One of the most powerful parts of the services were the testimony video’s we showed before we baptized people on Stage. I wanted everyone to have the opportunity to see all 6 stories from the Anderson and Greenville Campus.

If you are interested in signing up for baptism on October 4th, you can sign up here.

Here are the videos:

NewSpring Hurricane Relief Update

This has been an amazing week so far. On Sunday our church stepped up big time to donate supplies for us to send to Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge. On Monday we had a ton of volunteers here helping us separate the food and water that we are sending and put it all on pallets. Today we are loading the trucks and getting ready to send the food, water and tarps to Louisiana. Tonight we have 4 volunteers that are going to drive the trucks to Baton Rouge. Please pray for their safety tonight and tomorrow.

Here are the stats on what we collected for the Hurricane Relief Effort:

2 – 26′ Box trucks – Donated by Ryder!
16 – Pallets of food, water, and tarps
almost 400 cases of water
22,000 pounds of supplies to help with hurricane relief

I want to say thank you to everyone that donated supplies. Thank you for your generosity to help another church minister to their community in a practical way. A huge thank you to Ryder for donating the trucks for us. I also want to say a huge thank you to the volunteers that stepped up to make this happen!

Hurricane Relief Outreach

I spent some time yesterday talking to the folks at Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge. They were sharing with me some of the damage that Hurricane Gustav did to their area and the relief efforts they are taking on to minister to the people in their chrurch and community.

I am so excited that NewSpring has the opportunity to step up and help this church and their community in a major way.  We are going to load some large trucks and send this church the items that their community needs next week.

This weekend we will be collecting the following goods at our Anderson and Greenville locations before and after our services…and then on Monday in both locations from 8-10 on Monday.

  • Canned food
  • Bottled Water
  • Tarps for roofs

We also would love to have some volunteers help us to sort these items, pack them up, and send them to Louisiana next week. If you are interested in helping on Sunday or any day next week, please contact our outreach pastor, David Nimmons, at 226-6585 or david.nimmons@newspring.cc
